1960’s Heuer Monte Carlo and Master Time Rally Set

From motor racing, flying and even power boats the Monte Carlo did it all when it came to timing. Then partnered with the Master Time it makes the perfect Rally Set. Heuer has been well known in motor racing for what seems an eternity. But this is where it all really started with dashboard timers.

In 1958, Heuer unveiled the Monte Carlo 12-hour dash-mounted stopwatch, a successor to the Autavia model. Unlike the Autavia, which utilized traditional round recorders for minutes (at 12 o’clock) and hours (at 6 o’clock), the Monte Carlo introduced a distinctive design featuring a 12-hour numerical counter displayed in a “window” positioned at the bottom of the dial. Heuer proudly declared that the newly implemented central register for minutes and a jumping disc for hours ensured the “greatest legibility ever found in a stopwatch.”

The initial iterations of the Monte Carlo were equipped with three buttons, or more precisely, a button on the left, a central crown, and a pusher on the right.

Operate the timer on the Monte Carlo stopwatch by winding it using the crown at the center. Start the timer by pressing the crown, stop it by pressing the crown again (time out), and restart by pressing the crown once more time in these functions can be repeated. To reset the minute and second hands to zero with the timer stopped, use the right pusher, and to advance the hour disk to zero, press the left pusher.

This design provided enhanced functionality and control, emphasizing Heuer’s commitment to innovation and readability in their timekeeping instruments. The three button Monte Carlo stopwatches would remain in production until circa 1967.
